Revisions are a clear focus of our practice: a substantial share of our UK patients in 2025 came to us after earlier work that no longer functioned to a standard they were happy with. Typical origins include Hungarian budget chains (generic materials, fit problems), Antalya high-volume clinics (aesthetic mismatch, the so-called “Turkey teeth” regret), earlier UK private work (porcelain fracture, secondary caries, dated metal-ceramic crowns to be replaced) or other Istanbul boutique practices (a clinic move, a gap in aftercare). Our approach: an honest assessment, a targeted partial revision where that is enough, and a full re-make only where it is necessary.
Cobalt-chromium crowns from a Hungarian volume laboratory, slightly bulky at the gumline, plaque trap, chronic gum inflammation. Often acceptable on day one, but a problem 3–5 years later.
→ Replace with e.max or zirconia, typically 4–6 teeth at a time.The classic “Turkey teeth” package: 16–20 full-strength zirconia crowns, often too opaque (“bathroom white”), aesthetically not harmonious, with healthy teeth over-prepared. Patient regrets the decision after 1–2 years.
→ Honest assessment: full re-make in e.max or partial revision (anteriors only).15–25 year old metal-ceramic or gold crowns on posteriors, clinically still sound but no longer wanted aesthetically (a new role, more visible work, or simply personal preference).
→ Targeted swap to zirconia where it is justified by tooth structure.Occlusal chip on a crown (typically from undiagnosed bruxism). The crown needs replacing; at the same time, we check whether other restorations are at risk.
→ New crown plus a night guard plus a review of the neighbouring teeth.A 3- or 5-unit bridge fitted with occlusal mis-positioning — TMJ symptoms, increased clenching, muscle pain since the work was done.
