In Germany the implant passport has been a legal requirement since 2021 (MPDG). In the UK, the GDC and BDA both recommend that patients receive a documented record of any implant placed. In many Istanbul clinics it is "forgotten". We always hand it over — as a bound PDF and a printed document. Manufacturer, lot number, reference number, surgery date, surgeon — all in writing. This is not a marketing extra. It is the basis on which your implant will still be repairable in ten years' time.
Sample document. Real passports are issued with the individual data of your treatment.
Your individual serial number is on the implant passport and on the implant sticker enclosed with it. Example: SX7K92114 (Straumann) or 60-xxxx-xxxxx (Nobel Biocare).
Straumann: straumann.com/my-straumann → product verification. Nobel Biocare: nobelbiocare.com/product-traceability. Paste the lot number and click "verify".
The system displays the product name, manufacture date, expiry and — for authorised distributors — the destination distribution centre. If the system does not recognise the lot number, that is a warning sign and you should contact us straight away.
Non-authorised parallel imports and copy products do exist in the Turkish dental market. If a clinic promises "Straumann" but cannot give you a lot number — or if the lot number cannot be verified with the manufacturer — there is reasonable doubt about the authenticity. We work exclusively with the authorised Straumann and Nobel Biocare distributor for Turkey. Every lot number is verifiable, every time.
Your UK dentist needs a new abutment. Without the passport, they don't know which system (Straumann, Nobel, Medentika, other) your connection uses. With the passport: 10 minutes instead of 90 minutes of trial and error.
Bone loss around the implant. Your follow-up clinician decides between GBR (bone augmentation) and explantation. Diameter, surface specification and insertion torque (all in the passport) inform that decision.
You move, change practice. Your new clinician opens a fresh patient record. The implant passport replaces a 2-hour anamnesis and an additional CBCT scan.
The implant passport is part of the standard treatment scope. You receive it in your hand on the surgery day, and as a PDF by email.
