The short answer: no. Neither the NHS nor most private policies reimburse dental treatment in Istanbul. We would rather you knew this directly than discover it on arrival. But that is not the whole story — here are the figures, the references, and the strategies that make travelling to Istanbul cost-effective even at zero reimbursement.
NHS dental treatment is delivered in the UK through commissioned providers. Routine elective treatment received privately abroad is not reimbursable by the NHS, except for medically necessary urgent treatment that becomes unavoidable while you are abroad.
Turkey is outside the EU and outside the EU Cross-Border Healthcare arrangements that previously applied to UK residents. Planned dental treatment in Istanbul is therefore not covered by the NHS. This is a categorical position, confirmed by NHS guidance for elective treatment abroad.
The picture is different for the private side: many UK private dental insurance policies include an "overseas treatment" or "major treatment" allowance that can be used for planned treatment abroad — Turkey included. The level of cover depends on your policy tier; we walk you through what is typical further down the page.
A worked example for a double-arch All-on-4 — the most frequently requested complete-treatment case for UK patients travelling to Istanbul.

Each answer is detailed by design — on this topic, precision matters more than speed.
No. NHS dental treatment is delivered in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland through commissioned providers — there is no entitlement to NHS reimbursement for elective treatment received privately abroad. Turkey is outside the EU and outside the EU Cross-Border Healthcare arrangements that previously applied; current NHS guidance only covers urgent treatment that becomes medically necessary while you are abroad.
Reimbursement of routine implant treatment in Istanbul is therefore zero. The only exception: a genuine medical urgency (accident, unforeseeable acute complication) during a stay abroad — in that case a targeted reimbursement may be claimed on presentation of specific medical evidence.
The solution: our pricing is structured to be cost-effective even at zero reimbursement. For an All-on-4 or full-mouth rehabilitation the saving against an equivalent UK private treatment remains very substantial (£6,000 to £13,000 net, depending on your policy). For a simple case (1–2 implants), Hungary may remain more advantageous when combined with insurance — we say so plainly.
Some premium private dental policies cover up to £1,500 per year through an "overseas treatment" or "major treatment" allowance — the upper limit is typical for plans from Bupa Dental, AXA Health and WPA. Other policies (Simplyhealth, HSF Health Plan, mid-tier corporate schemes) apply tighter caps, often £350–£700 per year depending on the tier.
We provide an itemised written plan in the format UK insurers expect, with equivalent NHS Band references where applicable, VAT-detailed invoices and every document needed for your claim: operative report, certificates of provenance for Straumann, Neodent or Nobel Biocare with lot numbers, and the warranty signed in English.
For an All-on-4 (£5,650–£10,000), the insurer share covers a fraction — but the saving against the same intervention in the UK (£14,000–£24,000) remains very substantial. If your current policy does not include an "overseas treatment" option, you can often add it separately or request it at annual renewal.
The most favourable UK private dental insurers for overseas treatment in 2026 are:
Important: no UK insurer covers Turkey specifically — these are generic "overseas treatment" allowances. No policy reimburses 100 %; every policy has a cap. To make the most of yours, ask us for an itemised written plan before you upgrade your insurance — we map each item to its equivalent NHS Band reference and indicate the amount typically reimbursable under common policies.
Yes, as standard. Your discharge pack includes:
These are exactly the documents a UK insurer asks for to assess an "overseas treatment" claim. Our English-speaking coordinator can also help you draft the cover letter to your insurer, or respond to subsequent requests for clarification.
For one or two simple implants: often, yes. Hungary is in the EU. UK NHS cross-border reimbursement no longer applies after Brexit, but UK private insurers often treat Hungary the same as Istanbul under their generic overseas allowances. Combined with your insurance, the out-of-pocket cost can come down to £400–£700 per implant — competitive with Istanbul.
For 6 or more implants, an All-on-4 (one or two arches), full-mouth rehabilitation or a 16-veneer smile design: insurance caps become insufficient and the absolute price gap tilts towards Istanbul. On top of that, Istanbul offers stronger technology in those complex cases (CBCT 3D plus guided surgery as standard, exclusively Straumann BLX where indicated).
Our dedicated Turkey vs Hungary section sets out the case-by-case calculation with up-to-date 2026 figures. If your case is better suited to Hungary, we will say so — without commercial pressure.
For complex cases: yes, and significantly. See the worked example above for a double-arch All-on-4. Two further examples:
16-veneer smile design (e.max): in the UK £8,000–£16,000 total, NHS reimbursement zero (a purely cosmetic procedure outside NHS scope), private insurance £150–£400 typically. Final out-of-pocket ~£7,850–£15,600. At GC Clinic: £4,200 package + ~£200 flights = £4,400 total. Net saving ~£3,400–£11,200.
Full-mouth rehabilitation, 8+ implants: in the UK £25,000–£40,000 total, NHS zero, private insurance capped £1,500–£3,000. Final out-of-pocket £20,500–£35,500. At GC Clinic: £12,500 package + ~£200 flights = £12,700 total. Net saving £8,000–£23,000.
For simple cases the calculation is less favourable — and that is why we are transparent about what suits Istanbul and what is better elsewhere.
Yes. On request our invoices are issued in pounds sterling (£), with euro reference values shown for clarity, and Turkish VAT explicitly itemised. Each item is invoiced separately with its equivalent NHS Band reference where applicable — so your insurer can assess the claim against the same reference framework as a UK procedure.
Invoices are signed and stamped by the clinic, dated, and identified to the patient. Payment can be made in pounds by bank transfer (we hold both UK and Turkey IBANs), by debit/credit card (with conversion handled by your bank), or in cash for patients who prefer. Our UK IBAN details are available on request to simplify your accounting. Static rate used: 1 GBP = 1.15 EUR.
Yes. Several instalment options are available:
GC Clinic does not offer its own internal credit. We prefer to let you negotiate transparent finance terms with UK lenders, with no hidden margin built in.
Standard NHS dental treatment in the UK (Bands 1–3) remains available for routine follow-up: an examination, scale and polish, or a simple repair carried out by your NHS dentist is reimbursable in the usual way, on the standard NHS dental charge.
For follow-up of treatment carried out in Istanbul: standard checks (review radiograph, scale and polish, small adjustments) carried out by your UK dentist are reimbursable on the standard NHS Band, in the usual way. It is a UK procedure billed at UK rates.
For more substantial follow-up that fits within NHS scope (for example, a Band 3 crown on an adjacent natural tooth), your NHS dentist can carry it out under the usual arrangements, independent of the original treatment abroad. The NHS scheme remains fully applicable to UK procedures.
Some premium travel insurance policies (Bupa Travel, AXA Travel, Allianz Travel, Staysure) include "urgent overseas medical care" that may partially cover dental complications during your stay.
Important: these policies cover unforeseen medical urgencies, not later complications of planned treatment. If you accidentally break a tooth during your stay, they apply; if an implant gives concern 3 months after you are home, they generally do not.
More importantly: the GC Clinic "we bring you back here" clause covers most scenarios where a complication is attributable to clinical fault — return flight, accommodation and corrective treatment funded by the clinic, under the warranty terms set out on our Aftercare and Warranty page. It is a more specific and more complete protection than a generic travel insurance policy for the risk that relates to your treatment.
For each item proposed, we indicate the equivalent NHS Band reference (where applicable) and an estimate of the reimbursement typically allowed under the main UK insurers. You know exactly what to expect — before you travel.
