Patient guide · the no-nonsense checklist

How to spot a serious boutique dental clinic in Istanbul.

Three questions to ask before you choose. Ten concrete checks. Six red flags. This page is an honest patient guide, not a sales pitch — we would rather you arrived with us (or someone else) after sorting through, than blindly.

Three questions to ask before choosing

If a clinic answers any of these poorly, walk away.

01

"Who, by name, will be carrying out my treatment?"

A serious clinic gives you a name, shows the qualification, indicates registration with the Turkish Dental Association (Türk Diş Hekimleri Birliği — TDB), and puts you in direct contact with that clinician before you fly — not just an anonymous "patient coordinator". If the answer is "our team" or "it depends on the day", that is a no.

02

"Which materials exactly, and may I have the manufacturer's delivery note with the lot number?"

For an implant: manufacturer name (Straumann, Nobel Biocare, etc.), product reference, lot number, manufacture date. All of that is printed on official manufacturer's delivery notes — verifiable on their international registers. If the clinic refuses, or talks about "European quality" without specifics, that is a no.

03

"Have you carried out a CBCT (3D scan) before proposing my treatment plan?"

For implantology or full-mouth rehabilitation, a CBCT is essential before confirming the plan: it reveals bone volume, anatomical structures (sinus, alveolar nerve) and unseen pathologies. A clinic that proposes a definitive plan based only on photographs or a 2D panoramic — with no CBCT — is not serious for that type of treatment.

Practical checklist · 10 verifications

What you can ask for, verify and require.

Print this list. Send these 10 questions by WhatsApp or email to every clinic on your shortlist. Compare the answers.

  • 01
Turkish Dental Association registration: ask for the dentist's TDB registration number — it is verifiable.
  • 02
Specialty certifications: ESE (European Society of Endodontology), AAE (American Association of Endodontists), ITI (International Team for Implantology). Each verifiable on the relevant society's official site.
  • 03
Verifiable physical address: visible on Google Maps and Street View, a real building rather than a serviced address. How long has the practice been at that address?
  • 04
Itemised treatment plan: material, reference, unit price for each procedure. No vague "all-inclusive package" without detail.
  • 05
Material traceability: Straumann/Nobel manufacturer's delivery notes with lot numbers — copy available, ideally included in your file.
  • 06
CBCT before planning: required for implantology. No CBCT, no definitive plan.
  • 07
Direct contact with the dentist before travelling: a 15–20 minute video call with the clinician personally — not a sales rep, not a coordinator alone.
  • 08
Written warranty: contract in English, defined durations (10 years on implants, 5 years on crowns and veneers, 2 years on endodontic re-treatment, 1 year on soft-tissue grafts at GC Clinic), explicit exclusions.
  • 09
Records pack issued before you leave: clinical report, panoramic in DICOM, material certificates, protocol, signed warranty. This is what allows your UK dentist to take over the follow-up.
  • 10
Coordination response SLA: WhatsApp typical reply within 30 minutes during clinic hours; email within 2–4 hours. Serious coordination is fast before the sale — and continues after.
Six red flags

If you see any of these, walk away immediately.

  • !
    Improbably low prices.

Implant + crown for £300 all-in? Either the material isn't Straumann/Nobel (but a copy), the lab work is sub-contracted in questionable conditions, or both.

  • !
"Everything in 5 days, regardless of the case."

Bone healing takes 3–6 months between implant placement and definitive prosthetic loading. Doing All-on-4 + grafting + final crowns in five days compresses biology.

  • !
    No CBCT proposed.

For implantology or rehabilitation, this is non-negotiable. Without 3D imaging, placement is blind.

  • !
The dentist remains invisible until you arrive.

All communications go through a "patient coordinator"? You can't see the clinician's face, qualification or experience? That tells you the clinical work isn't the priority of the model. Sale first, care second.

  • !
Refusal to provide lot numbers and manufacturer's delivery notes.

"We guarantee it's Straumann." Ask for traceability in writing. If you get a refusal or evasion: it is most likely a copy.

  • !
High-pressure sales — "offer expires in 24 hours".

A medical decision is not made under marketing pressure. A serious clinic gives you time to think, to seek a second opinion, even to compare with another clinic in Turkey.

Where to find reliable reviews

Not all reviews are equal.

  • ◆ Google Reviews: favour long reviews (10+ lines), spread over several years, with photographs. Be wary of bursts of short 5-star reviews arriving over a few weeks (orchestrated campaigns).
  • ◆ Trustpilot: check the distribution. A profile that is 100% 5-star is suspicious; a profile with a few 3- or 4-stars answered calmly is more credible.
  • ◆ UK forums: Mumsnet, Reddit r/AskUK, and dental Facebook groups. Look for detailed accounts; be wary of brand-new accounts with single posts.
  • ◆ Documented cases: a clinic that publishes complete cases with pre/post X-rays (with consent) is generally more solid than one that only shows Hollywood smiles.

  • Sterilization: ISO 17665 autoclave protocol, hospital-grade
  • Lab: CAD/CAM in-house · same-day restorations where indicated
  • Surgical lead: Dr. Cansu Öztürk and the senior implantology team
